What was your path to your current role?
I started my computer career in the military. From there, I transitioned to a help desk job and was later promoted to become an information security manager. Learning security opened up opportunities for me at follow-on government and military organizations. The last pivot in my career was when I was lured away from the government to work in the financial sector. At each stage of my journey, I've gained friends and knowledge, all because someone was willing to take a chance on me.
What’s a cool recent project you worked on?
I had the amazing opportunity to give a presentation to financial sector members at the New York Stock Exchange. It was very humbling to be in such a historic location with so many intelligent people. I was truly grateful for the opportunity.
“Don't be afraid to give back to the community. You gained knowledge from someone who took the time to share. Blog, collaborate, volunteer. Even if you just volunteer to teach a security class at the library, you never know what impact you might have.
What role does teamwork play in your day to day job?
We all have a common mission - protect the customers and company. I believe strongly in collaboration and I'm always trying to think of who could use the information I have or who might want to be part of a project I'm working on.
What skills will help someone succeed in penetration testing?
Curiosity. Always ask questions and try to figure things out.
